This course provides an overview of the legal and regulatory system governing the construction industry in Canada, with a focus on structural design regulations. In particular, requirements of Part 4 (Structural Design) of the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) will be discussed.

Dr. Semelawy is a senior (structural) associate 30 Forensic Engineering (Toronto, Canada).
In addition to his academic and research experience, Dr. Semelawy is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 18 years of practical experience working on a variety of both large and small scale projects, including industrial oil and gas, commercial, and residential projects.
Dr. Semelawy has also extensive experience working in Codes and Standards Development. Specifically, he provided structural engineering expertise and advice to support the development, review, and revision of the Building Code Act, the NBCC, as well as other related regulations and standards, with a particular emphasis on the design, construction, inspection and rehabilitation of building structural systems
Dr. Selemawy has received several awards, has several publications, and has served as a reviewer for several journals and conferences.
